FAQs

How does it work?
We use a sophisticated light energy source for hair reduction. The light is absorbed by the pigment in your hair, which effectively disables the hair follicle. The laser can remove hair from the face or body; for example, the arms, underarms, legs, backs, and even particularly sensitive areas like the upper lip.

What do Laser treatments feel like?
As the name implies, the laser cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required; however some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.

How long does each treatment take?
It depends, of course, on the size of the area, but it typically takes 60 minutes to treat the upper and lower legs and 45 minutes for a man’s back.

How many treatments will I need?
Most areas require 3-6 treatments. However, the number of treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors – hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle.

Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. Treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not re-growing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

Is it totally permanent?
Potentially. The hair we treat with will likely not grow back, and patients can expect an 85% reduction in hair after four to six treatments. As we age our hair patterns change, so this does not prevent the possibility of new hair growth over the years. *Results may vary

How is your treatment different from other clinics?
Our technology is considered the gold standard in the laser industry because of its long history of safety and effectiveness on all skin types – even on tanned skin, which is a nice benefit to our patients in the summer months. We can treat not only coarse hair but fine hair as well. It is safe and effective.

How does it differ from electrolysis?
Electrolysis involves inserting a needle into individual hair follicles and delivering and electrical charge to them one at a time. Therefore, it can be costly, painful and time-consuming to do any more than a small area. Our technology, on the other hand, delivers light energy to hundreds of follicles at a time, which makes it ideal for treating large as well as small areas.

Do I need to grow the hair out before my treatment?
No. In fact, we ask that you shave beforehand since the treatment is targeting the hair follicle itself – not just hair.

Is it safe?
The beauty of our technology is that it effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. You may be a little red afterward, but that typically goes away in a matter of hours. As with all medical procedures there is a slight degree of risk, and we will discuss this with you thoroughly when you come in for your consultation.

How much does it cost?
This depends totally on the size of the area and the number of treatments we estimate are needed to achieve the clearance. If you’d like to make an appointment for a consultation, we can give you an idea as to the number of treatments and the specific price.

Can anyone have it done?
No laser or light-based system can treat blonde, white, red, or gray hair since there is no melanin in it to absorb the light, but with our CoolGlide and Prowave systems people with any other color hair, any skin type, and even tanned skin can receive treatment.
