Dr. Harry J. Lefebre, M.D. founded his Calgary Weight Loss Clinic (Lefebre and Burke Weight Loss & Laser Centre) in March 1988.

At that time, his weight management center was the first medical practice limited to obesity treatment in Calgary and the first obesity (bariatric) medical diet centre established west of Toronto.

Since 1988, the Lefebre Diet Clinic has assisted in the care of over 35,000 bariatric patients. Dr. Lefebre has always recognized that the “Weight struggle is as much psychological as it is physical”.

To address this statement, our weight control program has been designed to include individualized diet plans, an exercise and activity plan and an effective motivation and behavioral program which includes one-on-one diet, nutrition and psychological counseling.

Our Motivation Program (originally developed by Dr. Maurice Larocque from Montreal) consists of weekly handout materials, weight management books and CD’s and a computer program called the “Mental Weight” (MW) personality assessment test. The MW program assesses your habits, motivation, self image, stress and emotional control and helps identify your psychological blocks that are, or could be causing your overweight problems. Once the causes of overeating are identified, the computer directs you to the proper weight management books or CD’s that will help deal with and correct these problems. In other words, our weight management clinic treats not only the effects of overeating (excess body fat), but treats the real causes of the overweight problem.

Often guilt, shame and embarrassment go hand and hand with a weight problem and as a result, our sympathetic, understanding and nonjudgmental approach to therapy reflects these concerns.

Regardless of whether you are 10, 50, or 150 pounds overweight, we at the Lefebre and Burke Weight Loss and Laser Centre recognize that your overweight condition represents one of the most, if not THE MOST difficult challenge in your life.

Dr. Peggy Burke also specializes in treating  bariatric surgery patients before and after surgery, and treats gastric lap band patients for band adjustments.
