FAQ’s

March 8th, 2023 — 11:59am

Do I need a doctor’s referral? No. While some clients have been referred by their doctor, it is not necessary.

What makes your method different than others?Truly, any method of weight loss can be effective, but there is a necessity to individualize food intake and monitor it long-term. By meeting with people one-on-one and we can ensure that the plan meets their specific needs and lifestyle. We do not have group meetings and your doctor’s visit is covered by Alberta Health Care.

What defines success?Simply stated, success is short-term weight loss and long-term weight maintenance. Maintenance of goal weight beyond two years is important in order to prevent the so-called yo-yo effect of off and on dieting.

Keeping a Food Diary is a MUST for successful weight control!

October 6th, 2022 — 3:15pm

When we first see you in the office and at each subsequent visit we give you a food diary to record your foods.  Why is this?  The food diary is the most powerful proven aid for weight management.  People who keep a food and exercise diary not only lose more weight, they also tend to keep it off.  Recommitting to recording your foods is a great habit to get into, or to resume.  Here are some of the reasons to record your foods:

Setting Success Goals

July 5th, 2022 — 3:42pm

Most patients set themselves up for failure in that the only goal they have in mind is to reach their “ideal weight”. At the same time, others around them have put that expectation on them as well(i.e. their spouse, friends, physicians and society in general). In other words, if someone for example, is 75 lbs. overweight, everyone feels that person should lose 75 lbs. to be successful.

We are not saying that an individual can’t lose 75 or more pounds, but what if they only lose 30 – 35 lbs.? Immediately, they think they have failed, they begin to slip and begin to reinforce that they are indeed a failure and proceed to gain back all their weight and usually more. On the same hand, what if that individual lost their 75 lbs., but gained back 5 lbs. Again, they feel they have failed at maintenance and begin to gain all their weight back.

We […]
