Damaged Skin from Too Much Sun? We Can Help

August 13th, 2014 — 12:34pm

LimeLight-Photo-FacialCanadians are renowned for basking in the sun. Afterall, we spend 4-6 months indoors during the year hiding from the rain and snow, so it makes sense that once the temperatures rise past 10 degrees we want to spend as much time outdoors as possible. The sun makes us feel good and gives us that “healthy” glow. We take pride in working on our tan during the summer months.

What we don’t realize, or perhaps choose to forget, is that the sun actually accelerates the affects of aging and increases our risk of developing sunspots, wrinkles, and skin cancer. Using a generous amount of sunscreen can help protect us from this damage, but what if the damage has already been done? Photo Facials are increasingly common at medical spas to help with this, and with good reason. They are a safe, reliable, and easy way to get noticeable results fast.

One treatment that we offer is the LimeLight photo facial treatment. This treatment focuses on skin tone, and can treat age spots, blotchiness, freckles, and of course pigment. In general terms, LimeLight is very effective at treating discolourations by targeting only certain pigments with the light pulses on your skin. LimeLight will focus primarily on the upper layers of your skin, and after treatment you can expect the pigment to flake naturally for a week or two as new healthy skin appears over the damaged areas.

The LimeLight facial treatment requirements can vary significantly based on your individual needs, so it is best to go to your local medical spa in Calgary for a consultation to get exact details on how many sessions you may need or what to expect from the treatment.

This treatment is in no way a replacement for smart sun management, which includes using sunscreen and the use of an umbrella wisely. It will, however, help with the damage that has already occurred.
