Dr. Harry J. Lefebre, M.D.Dr. Harry Lefebre’s personal interest in weight control began as an overweight child. He has nurtured his interest in obesity treatment (Bariatrics) throughout his entire medical career. Dr. Lefebre founded the Lefebre Weight Control Clinic in March of 1988. Before then, he practiced family medicine from 1974 -1985 in several South Calgary communities extending from Acadia to Midnapore. He moved to Texas in 1985 to pursue his interest in Bariatric Medicine. “Bariatric Medicine is the medically supervised treatment of obesity and its associated conditions”. The term was derived from the Greek word “weight” and was coined by several interested physicians in the USA in 1950. In that year, they formed the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP). Dr. Lefebre has been a member of the ASBP since 1983 and has also been a member of the Canadian Obesity Network (CON) since its inception. Dr. Lefebre (in 1990) became the first physician in Canada to obtain Diplomate status with the American Board of Bariatric Medicine (ABBM). The ABBM was established to serve the public and the field of bariatric medicine through the establishment and maintenance of criteria and procedures for examination and certification of physicians who seek recognition of their accomplishments in bariatric medicine. The ABBM advocates a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach to the treatment of obesity. Diplomates must satisfy the qualifications for certification, pass a certification exam, complete a board inspection, participate in continuing medical education, and are recertified every five years. Dr. Peggy Burke, M.D.Dr. Peggy Burke has been with the Lefebre and Burke Weight Loss & Laser Centre for over 20 years. She has practiced family medicine for many years in Calgary and is also a member of the ASBP and CON. Dr. Burke has a special interest in providing pre and post operative care for bariatric surgery patients. She is trained in saline fill adjustments for adjustable lap band bariatric surgery.

Our Staff
- Dr. Jackie Safran is a Family Physician who has been with the Lefebre Clinic since July of 1989 and continues to fill in one day a month for Dr. Burke and Dr. Lefebre. Dr. Safran continues to bring to the clinic her positive, cheerful personality which has certainly helped to motivate our patients over the years.
- Michelle began in 1995 while going to university. Over the years she has continued to work for us in the evenings and on weekends and as of March 2013 has taken on the role of office administrator.
- Patricia began working with us in early 2012. Her positive nature and friendly demeanor have made her a great addition and integral part of our team.
- Diana began working with us in 2011 and continues to work in the office part time. Her flexibility and reliability are truly appreciated.
- Stacey began working with us in 2019. Her cheerful attitude and commitment to the office has been amazing and she has been such a welcome addition to our team.
- Tony-We would also like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Lefebre’s brother Tony, who has been his Business Manager since day one (March 2,1988).
